[post_content] => Continuing our series of the Top 4 Salesforce Features to Know and Use in 2018, Salesforce has recently released a new product that rivals the collaboration experience of tools such as Microsoft Teams. Salesforce announced the release of their new product Quip at Dreamforce, their annual conference, on November 6th, 2017. Salesforce, traditionally known as the global leader in software based CRM tools, has catapulted themselves into a new realm of team collaboration with Quip.

Quip allows users to separate themselves from management-by-email. Instead, users navigate to a portal that has everything they need to accomplish their daily tasks. This cloud-based collaboration platform allows the user to combine documents, spreadsheets, apps and chat with live CRM data. Much like Microsoft Teams, this product allows the user to collaborate with their team in a virtual workspace, while eliminating the mess that is created by emailing files back and forth. Test users have reported a 32% decrease in visits to their email client while using Quip.

Quip was initially created on a mobile platform, so this product allows you to work seamlessly between you PC, tablet, or mobile phone. Quip empowers collaboration and gives your document super powers with the “Live Apps” feature. Quip's Live Apps are custom-built applications that can be embedded directly into any Quip document. Live apps bring visibility to elements that are most relevant for the specific user’s project. The user can embed Salesforce records, third-party partner apps, and other collaborative tools in any live document.

Salesforce Quip Screenshot

Salesforce announced several of the out-of-the-box Live Apps that will be provided for users, including Calendars for marketing and event planning, Salesforce records that allow the user to view and edit Salesforce records directly in Quip, and Kanban boards for workflow visualization. Companies such as New Relic, EA, 21st Century Fox, and Facebook have already adopted the product and use it to plan out their daily routine.

Live Apps are available today and any user with a Quip Business license has access to the Calendar and Kanban Board functionality. For a minimal cost of $25 per month, a user can upgrade to the Quip Enterprise license and gain access to many other features, such as the Salesforce Record Live app.

CAD & BIM Integration to SharePoint, Salesforce, Autodesk, and beyond

Whether you're working with SharePoint, Salesforce or Autodesk, integration is more critical than ever. As companies start using new collaborative tools and going into the cloud, integration is still a struggle. CIO wrote that about 90 percent of businesses are using the cloud. But initial integration is creating challenges. “Integration challenges remain long after organizations first make the jump to the cloud, it’s clear that the technology is here to stay. Businesses who ride out the current storm and find the right balance of public, private and hybrid cloud solutions will gain a unique advantage over the competitors,” according to CIO. Making your software and solutions talk to one another is critical. “When applications don’t ‘speak’ to one another or share information, companies are forced to continuously update different systems of record,” HingePoint CEO and Founder Bryce Finnerty said. “They are prisoners to the technology they use.” Here are three quick HingePoint examples of companies that needed an integration solution. CAD to BIM: A client used CAD files to build rental storage units across Texas. Everything was done with paper: the planning, the design, determining the rentable space in the building, and submitting construction documents. For each building this developer built, new CAD files were created. HingePoint took all the developer’s CAD drawings, put them in Revit and made a full 3D model the developer can view on their smartphone. Hotel franchise: A large hotel franchise had 12 old software platforms powering the en- tire company. The hotel franchise envisioned automating the design and construction process that operated perhaps the largest system of hotel rooms on the planet. The goal was to move everything to the cloud... and access all the information on a mobile screen. You can learn more from our Integrated Solutions eBook. Commercial Real Estate Developer: A real estate firm tracked the finances for more than 50 projects manually. All 50 project managers would collect key financial data from each project. They would put it into a PDF and send it to the CFO. The CFO team would then print the PDFs and put all the data into an Excel spreadsheet. Then they would make graphs and tables to see how the projects were doing. They would do this once a month. To solve this problem, HingePoint made one simple interface where the CFO can get the data instantly. Project managers just upload information to the digital financial dashboard now and the information is found immediately. A Simple 5 Step Systems Integration Process
A system of record is the first step, here’s how: 1 - Document the steps in your business process. Create a spreadsheet to capture the tasks performed and tools & systems used by each user/role active in the process. 2 - Research the data used in each step. Include the information found in each report, screen, or document used in the process. Create a data dictionary of all data fields and the system they come from (and who “owns” that data). 3 - Agree on the company “system of record” for each data point within each step in the process. 4 - Locate the duplicate data – Check the steps recorded and the systems involved. This step is key. The goal is to standardize the data formats and establish a comprehensive “data definition” that supports the business. 5 - Migrate all data directly into the “System of Record” and then integrate the down- stream systems into it. Make the system “share data” across the enterprise, not duplicate it.

3 things You Can Do with SharePoint So Your Company Will Work Faster

Microsoft’s SharePoint turns 16 years old this year, and it’s no surprise that while it now steers many company’s document management strategies, it’s making a leap into the cloud and on mobile devices. Enterprise companies—like AT&T—use SharePoint to collaborate, make new tools, manage documents and make company announcements. Commercial Real Estate and construction companies are starting to see the power of combining other tools—like Salesforce—with Microsoft’s SharePoint. “SharePoint has huge benefits because it can share data with other software and systems,” said CEO and Founder of HingePoint Bryce Finnerty. “We are seeing many commercial real estate companies with a lot of muscle coming to us and saying hey we need to build faster and the best way is to get control of all this information about our company with SharePoint.” HingePoint sees three major benefits to SharePoint for business. You need to have a good SharePoint consultant that can take you from ideation to production.

1. Company Intranets

Everything is on one screen. And when we say everything, we mean all your company data. It’s one of the best ways to get control of all the documents and communication needed to run a business. SharePoint becomes your one-stop shop for everything for your company. Employees have access to system apps and important company information, all from the company’s internal homepage.
  • IT Help Desk
  • HR Forms and Benefits
  • Find company documents
  • Corporate communication
  • Sharing company core values
  • News
  • Training
One of the greatest benefits of SharePoint is that it stores documents instead of emailing them to teams. “It’s way more secure than blasting company email to hundreds of employees,” Finnerty said.

2. Customer Engagement & Collaboration

The company intranet is usually for all employees working behind a firewall. A Customer Engagement and Collaboration site is for external audiences. It’s the company extranet, where you communicate with people outside your network. “You can use it for collaboration,” Finnerty said. “You can invite clients and subcontractors to work on projects together, and you are all collaborating and working better together.” It gives all parties involved a single source of truth for all documents. There is no more emailing the right document. No more version control problems. It’s all stored on SharePoint and the team members with the proper security clearance can access what is needed when they need it.

3. Search and Document Management

If you’re not using SharePoint as your system of record for your documents, chances are your documents are unorganized. SharePoint is the system of record for documents. Employees can even search all documents, libraries and network drives. These can be indexed and search through SharePoint. With the right SharePoint consulting, your documents will not only be easily findable with search, but they will be categories and organized in a way that lets you easily find what you’re looking for. Salesforce Quip Screenshot Salesforce announced several of the out-of-the-box Live Apps that will be provided for users, including Calendars for marketing and event planning, Salesforce records that allow the user to view and edit Salesforce records directly in Quip, and Kanban boards for workflow visualization.
