Data mining is looking at a lot of data and trying to get valuable information out of it.

Data mining deals with large data sets that would take too long to go through manually. So, data scientists create and use programs or software to look at these huge data sets and discover patterns in the data.

The core of data mining is turning data into information. It can be overwhelming to look at a lot of data and not see the value in it.

But what happens if you are a company and do not have so much information you need a program to determine the data you have?

When dealing with smaller sets of data, you don’t necessarily need to hire a team of data scientists. You need someone who understands data and can extract it enough to show you it visually.

HingePoint Data and Data Detective Work

Before you can mine your data for trends, you need to understand what data you have and if it is good or bad data. This is fundamental to using data to maximize your business.

Toyota and Lean Land in Plano, Texas

If you know anything about Toyota North America headquarters, you probably heard it is moving to Plano, Texas. They are building a remarkable new headquarters building near Legacy West. But what you might not know is that Toyota has revolutionized how companies and organizations around the world work together through something called lean. Lean is a philosophical approach created by Toyota in the 1930s to eliminate waste so you can better serve customers. "Being Toyota's neighbor in Plano is outstanding," HingePoint CEO and Founder Bryce Finnerty said. "We not only eliminate waste for our clients who are doing redundant work because of the software they are using, we have adopted the philosophy in our own work." The HingePoint team has been reading “2 Second Lean” by Paul Akers for about a year now. We read a page in our morning, 30-minute huddle, and we all try to “lean out” our workflow. Akers, who sent a personal message to the HingePoint team via YouTube, said lean is very simple and it should not be complicated. "Lean is simply the elimination of waste by taking every process that you do every day and just removing that waste and making it a little more efficient and easier for you to do," Akers said. "Lean should make your work more enjoyable. If it does that you're going to be more productive, the quality is going to go up, the customer is going to win, the company is going to win and you're going to win." Lean thinking is spreading.  According to the Lean Enterprise Institute, almost all industries are applying lean thinking to their businesses: logistics and distribution, services, retail, healthcare, construction, maintenance, and government. “Indeed, lean consciousness and methods are only beginning to take root among senior managers and leaders in all sectors today,” according to the Lean Enterprise Institute, But what exactly does 'lean out' mean? When we say “lean out your work,” we’re saying, “See where you are wasting time or resources and fix it.” Be like Toyota, and lean thinking will vastly improve your business. If you only save two seconds on repetitive tasks, those seconds start adding up if you continuously improve. And if you take the philosophy to heart, you can lean out your life both personally or professionally. Another good way to lean out your workflow is to fix what bugs you. Toyota called the philosophy of complete elimination of all waste the Toyota Production System. “Waste can manifest as excess inventory in some cases, extraneous processing steps in other cases, and defective products in yet other cases. All these "waste" elements intertwine with each other to create more waste, eventually impacting the management of the corporation itself,” according to Toyota. The production system was created with the objective of "making the vehicles ordered by customers in the quickest and most efficient way, in order to deliver the vehicles as quickly as possible."   • The Business Intelligence Center is new for 2013 and 2016 which allows you to connect BI Dashboards and BI Data to the Sharepoint User can adjust settings for different functionalities at the Site Level and the Site Collection Level
  • Library Settings holds all of your metadata and provides you with the ability to implement versioning history, approvals, and document templates
  • Best practice: do not create more than 8-12 subsites below the top level.

Other Cool Facts

  • In Sharepoint 2016, you now have the ability to upload files with special characters in the title.
  • Users can go to Recycle Bin to restore any deleted contents.
  • Users can go to Site Settings/ Look and Feel to change how SharePoint looks out of the box. Change formatting, background pictures, and color schemes. It also has many preloaded templates available to make Sharepoint more exciting. You can also upload a picture to the Sharepoint title in the top navigation.

Because of the development, Frisco is getting its first high-rise building, and three other developments will be built in the area. IGO’s corporate leaders introduced the project Sunday in Dubai, at Cityscape Global, one of the largest international real estate development and investment events in the world. Because of the massive development, corporate offices like the new Toyota North America headquarters, Liberty Mutual and FedEx will surround the developments, bringing a surge of new jobs to the area. The grand opening planned by DFW Events and Legacy West, showcased treats by Sprinkles Cupcakes, signature cocktails, live entertainment and food all proving to be as big as the Texas-sized state. Everything we have been seeing suggests we are in the middle of one of the biggest technological revolutions of our time and it is transforming how all of us do our work, especially in the AEC industry Just listen to Autodesk’s Senior Vice President Amar Hanspal who recently spoke at the Forge Devcon 2016 conference. “The future is here. We are in the Fourth Industrial Revolution!” Wow! But he’s not the only one saying this. So what the heck is the fourth? Well… it’s not just one new technology. It’s a bunch of technology converging that will transform government, business and life as we know it. From Forbes: Forbes

Professor Klaus Schwab is the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. He published a book The Fourth Industrial Revolution. He wrote on the World Economic Forum’s blog:
“The possibilities of billions of people connected by mobile devices, with unprecedented processing power, storage capacity, and access to knowledge, are unlimited. And these possibilities will be multiplied by emerging technology breakthroughs in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, autonomous vehicles, 3-D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, materials science, energy storage, and quantum computing.”

So what will this revolution bring the AEC Industry? Schwab from the World Economic Forum says that this will dramatically affect the AEC Industry.
“Engineers, designers, and architects are combining computational design, additive manufacturing, materials engineering, and synthetic biology to pioneer a symbiosis between microorganisms, our bodies, the products we consume, and even the buildings we inhabit.”
Let’s give you a practical example of what Schwab is saying.
Right now we are able to make 3D designs of our buildings. We can look at these designs on our smartphones. It reduces mistakes because construction crews can see how the building should be built instead of guessing based on 2D-paper drawings. What’s already happening is construction crews and architects are using augmented reality, virtual reality and computer-aided manufacturing. This is exactly what can be done for the construction industry. But instead of seeing a Pokémon GO you can see your 3D model on a plot of land. Or—as the picture above shows—it can show you how specific parts of the building should look. In the picture, the construction worker is looking at where a light should go on the ceiling. With augmented reality he can see it clearly. Virtual Reality Big firms are starting to use virtual reality to show off designs of their buildings. Customers can actually walk through their building and see it in true 3D before ever building it. This lets them know what it will look like and if they approve. Computer Aided Manufacturing and the Internet of Things This is the biggest transformation of this revolution. We are connecting machines to “talk” to one another. What this means is that my 3D BIM model can “talk” to a manufacturer’s machines. In theory, once information about the project is shared, the manufacture’s machine can automatically start cutting or creating whatever is needed without human interaction. So a saw can be connected to the Internet and get instruction on what and how to cut based on your model. The following functions can be used in computer-aided manufacturing: sawing, laser cutting, flame and plasma cutting, bending, gluing and routing and milling. Data mining is looking at a lot of data and trying to get valuable information out of it. Data mining deals with large data sets that would take too long to go through manually. So, data scientists create and use programs or software to look at these huge data sets and discover patterns in the data. The core of data mining is turning data into information. It can be overwhelming to look at a lot of data and not see the value in it. But what happens if you are a company and do not have so much information you need a program to determine the data you have? When dealing with smaller sets of data, you don’t necessarily need to hire a team of data scientists. You need someone who understands data and can extract it enough to show you it visually.
